Mosh and March this Jan. 21 at a Girl Power Concert @ The Fremont

Mosh and March this Jan. 21 at a Girl Power Concert @ The Fremont

Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.

Did you attend the march against Trump a few months back? Remember the sweat and the resistance and the collective power we felt, marching as one against hate? Well, let's do it again, OK? Let's get together in a public space and get real noisy. Let's get brash, brazen and BOLD with our compassion and love. Let's CRUSH the patriarchy with tender togetherness.

Let's shed some light into the darkness of Trump's ego and his terrifying gang - they will wither in the sunlight like the ghouls they are. Lets show up--body and soul--for all the little girls (and little boys) and LBGTQ babies who inhabit and will inhabit this planet.

Some things will never be OK. Marginalizing, diminishing, demonizing, defunding, objectifying and assaulting women is normal in Trump's America. We don't have to live in that place. We can and will rise above. We will not let this fly. It is not normal and it is not OK.

Let's bust out the markers, make some DIY signs, and meet up at the SLO Women's March coming up this Jan. 21 in Mitchell Park in SLO. Then, lets rock out to a boisterous and heartfelt girl power concert bringing together a gaggle of SLO lady musician collaborators under one roof!

INVOLVEMENT: This grassroots concert is presented by Good Medicine Presents and is a volunteer effort. Men, women, children and members of the LGBTQ community are welcome to attend, sing along, and speak their truth. The concert offers up a safe, non-violent, inclusive space where inspiration, healing, and unity can grow.

"Our intention for the show is: women rising together to declare that our future will not be dictated by fear, lies and hate. We stand loudly and clearly for love, community, collaboration and human rights," said concert organizer Shawna Marie.

COLLABORATION: The group of local musicians varies in age, musical style, and walk of life. However, they will all band together to play both original and cover songs. Many will be collaborating together for the first time. Organizer Korie Hill Newman of Good Medicine Presents is excited about this level of cooperation among the artists. Poetry and spoken word performances will add another layer of color and humanity to the event.

BENEFICIARIES: Please note: This concert is not officially affiliated with the SLO Women’s March, although the members support its mission and values. Proceeds from the show will benefit Transitions-Mental Health Association and Planned Parenthood Central Coast.
